What to Expect at a Cosmetic Dentist
There may be a number of different reasons why you might look for the services of a dentist that specializes in cosmetic work. Some people are looking for ways that they can achieve a brighter and whiter smile. Others may have problems with broken, crooked or even missing teeth. For work of this nature, you need someone that goes beyond the typical dental work you find at your dentist’s office. If this is going to be your first visit to this type of office, here are a few things that you can expect to occur on your visit to a cosmetic dentist:
- Consultation – When you first go to the dentist, there is going to be some type of initial consultation with the staff and the dentist. They will ask you some typical medical questions that you may get asked when you visit any doctor, but they will also ask you questions in specific regard to your teeth so they can get a better idea as to why you have come to the office. The office can then consider your requests along with any health concerns or conditions you may have before moving ahead.
- Initial Exam – There will also be an initial exam performed by the dentist so they can get an idea of what is going on. This exam will typically include a full oral exam and may also include x-rays. After the exam the dentist will be able to discuss with you any issues or problems discovered as they relate to your own concerns. This will help the dentist to formulate a plan and provide you with any options you may have in regards to treatment.
- Procedures – Depending on what type of procedures you are going to have performed will determine a great deal on what happens next. While there are some procedures that are done that require some type of oral surgery such as dental implants, there are others, such as teeth whitening, which do not. Each procedure may have different requirements in terms of time needed, any anesthesia required and the like.
When you know what you can expect from an office visit it will make you much calmer when you go to the office. You will be aware of what is going to happen and the dentist will keep you informed all along the way so you can be as comfortable as possible the whole time.
